Son of Benedict J. and Bernice (Golus) Wadas. On Oct. 23, 1971, Karl was united in marriage to Linda Cook at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ord. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Linda of Ord; two daughters, Karla Wadas of St. Paul and Annette Wadas of Lincoln; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Tory Wadas of North Loup and Brian Wadas of Lincoln; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva and Dean Nelson of Ord and Elaine and David Tongish of Centennial, Colo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Joyce Wadas of Ord. Additional survivors include two granddaughters, Kensey and Callie Wadas of North Loup; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Wadas) and Virgil Voss of Abbeville, S.C. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Benedict Jr. (Benny) Wadas and an infant brother. Karl was raised and spent most of his life on the family farm northeast of Ord, where he resided at the time of his death. Karl attended Noble 55 Rural School, St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Ord High School in 1962. Following high school, he worked on the family farm and at various jobs around Ord including the local dairy where he was known for hoisting 10-gallon milk cans with one in each hand into the truck. In February 1965, he enlisted in the U.S Navy. Karl served as an aircraft mechanic with the Fighter Squadron Ninety-Two aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. While serving, Karl was awarded the Naval Commendation Medal for his heroic measures taken when he removed a dislodged flare from entering an aircraft's engine preventing severe damage and numerous casualties aboard the USS Enterprise. Karl and Linda had two daughters and two sons. He retired in 2005 from the Department of Natural Resources, where he served as the division supervisor in Ord. During his 36-year employment, he earned respect from those he worked with and was honored as the Employee of the Year in 2000. He also farmed and raised hogs and cattle on the family farm. Karl enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was skilled in woodworking/carpentry. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 2292, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7029 and the Elks Lodge. Karl's Catholic faith was an integral part of his life, providing comfort and courage throughout his lifetime and battle with his failing health.
