Born 1902, died 1954 Married to Betty Ruth Averill 4 children -------------- From "The Harvard Courier", Harvard, Nebraska dated Thursday, April 15, 1954, Page 4: Obituary IVAN AVERILL Ivan Averill, the son of Louis and Jane Averill, was born at Harvard, Nebr., Dec. 10, 1901 and departed this life April 7 1954 at Houston, Texas at the age of 52 years, three month and 28 days. Ivan grew up in the Harvard community, attended grade and high school and then entered the military service in 1916 and served until mustered out in 1919. On December 10, 1923, he was united in marriage to Betty Bueoy, and to this union, four children, two sons and two daughters, were born. Ivan worked as a mechanic and at other things for a number of years, then in 1934 he took over the ownership, management and operation of a thriving poultry and egg business, which he operated until disposing of it in 1953. He served the community, of Harvard as a member of the City Council and was an active member of the American Legion for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis, and one son, Donald Edward, who was killed in action in World War Two while serving with the Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. His survivors include a son Richard Dennis of Harvard; two daughters Mrs. Donna Mae Pfann and Mrs. Ohla Lee Dieringer and a granddaughter, all of Lincoln; his mother, Jane Gregg Averill of Harvard; four brothers, Arnold of Ronchester, Wyo., Bert of Missouri, Rex of Giltner, and Edgar of Valparaiso, Nebr.; five sisters, Mrs. Virginia Jones, Mrs. Margaret Bowers and Mrs. Orpha Curtis, all of Seymour, Iowa, Mrs. Gladys Brabec of San Francisco and Mrs. Genevieve Glur of Grand Island and many nephews and nieces. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Bernard Hohnstein and Mrs. Rinehart Glantz with Mrs. Ed Hoppens at the piano. The pallbearers were a number of old friends of the family and included Ray Dieringer, Alva Brannen, Howard Rath, John Leichleiter, Ed Hoppens and Irv Bieck. Burial was made in the Harvard cemetery with the American Legion in charge of graveside services. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10 from the United Church in Harvard with the Rev. E. A. Katterhenry officiating. The American Legion was in charge of graveside services. Among those attending the services were Mrs. Kathryn Cooper of Awana, Iowa, Mrs. Rua Gray and daughter, Mrs. Clyde Pohlman, of Mapleton, Iowa, Mrs. Donna Powers of Glendale, Calif., Al Beuoy of Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Ancel Beuoy and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Cooper of Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Van Cura of Norton, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Curtis and Neal, Mrs. Fred Jones and Bert Averill, all of Seymour Iowa, Mrs. Gladys Barbec of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. and Mrs. Edgar Averill and family of Valpariso, Mr. and Mrs. Norris Glur of Grand Island, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Averill and family of Giltner, Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Jurgens of Hildreth and other relatives.
