THE SEYMOUR HERALD Seymour, Iowa Thursday, April 29, 1971 VIRGINIA AVERILL JONES Virginia May Averill Jones was born in Princeton, Ill., Jan. 17, 1893, the daughter of Lewis and Jane Averill. She passed away April 21, 1971, in the Wayne County hospital at Corydon at the age of 78 years, three months and four days. She was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian church at Centerville. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 124 and the Booster club near Numa. As a child she made two trips from Illinois to Nebraska in a covered wagon with her parents and two brothers. She owned and operated the Jones Coffee Shop in Seymour for several years and became known to the schoolchildren, customers and friends as "Ma" Jones. Preceded her in death were her husband, parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandchild. She is survived by her son, Merle, of Numa; three brothers, Arnold Averill of Sheridan, Wyo., Rex Averill of Hastings, Nebr., and Edgar Averill of Lincoln, Nebr.; four sisters, Margaret Morton of Chariton, Gladys Brabee of Coquille, Ore., Orpha Curtis of Seymour and Genevieve Glur of Grand Island, Nebr., three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral was Saturday, April 24, at the Liggett Funeral home in Seymour with Rev. Gary Mayes of the Centerville Christian church officiating. Burial was in Southlawn cemetery. Mrs. James Anderson Jr. sang sacred selection and Mrs. Iris Merritt accompanied her. Pallbearers were Jerry Johnson, Raymond Mattley, Dale Booth, Merrill Condra, Jerald Johnson and Clarence Elliott.
