Bio

Laura Ellen "Sis" Robinson was the daughter of John Ervin Robinson and Mary Jane Cooper Robinson. Laura Robinson married John Maton/Mayton on August 9, 1899. They were married only a five months when John Maton died on pneumonia on January 3, 1900, at the age of 30 years. The 1900 federal census shows Laura as a young widow living in the home of her brother, W. R. "Dick" Robinson and family. The 1900 census also shows Laura with an infant son, John Mayton. No information is known about this child so it is assumed he died quite young. Laura Robinson Mayton secondly married C. L. Oliver on April 24, 1902, in Liberty County, Texas. The family story is that Laura divorced C. L. Oliver after he was convicted of a felony and sent to prison. Following this divorce, Laura moved to Central Texas where she married her widowed first cousin, James Trowbridge "Jimmie" Morris about 1907. Jimmie Morris was the son of William Jasper Morris and Laura's aunt, Ann Eliza Robinson. Laura and Jimmie Morris were the parents of seven children. Because of Jimmie Morris' health, he and Laura moved to the dry climate of New Mexico. However, because of her family ties to Dayton, Laura Morris would move to Dayton and live at different times while her husband stayed in New Mexico. Laura Ellen Robinson Morris was hospitalized in Belen, New Mexico, where she died at the age of 70 years. ************************************************************************************ OBITUARY FROM THE LIBERTY VINDICATOR: FORMER DAYTON RESIDENT BURIED IN NEW MEXICO DAYTON -- Relatives here have received the news of the death of Mrs. Jimmie Morris at Los Lunas, N.M.
