***Note: Last name was originally spelled Stejskal. The death of another long time resident of Butler County and David City was chronicied Thursday March 31, when John F. Styskal, 87 years of age, passed away at 12:35am at his home at 818 E. Street. He had been ill for several weeks past, and pneumonia which developed last week proved fatal. Mr. Styskal was born at Domamily, Moravia, January 25, 1851, a son of Francis and Antonia Styskal. He came to Butler County in 1870, farming near Appleton for eight years and moving in 1880 to David City, where he was in business 40 years retiring 20 years ago. He was married at Fremont in 1877 to Anna Kriz, who survives him. To them were born six children, one son and five daughters of whom two daughters Anna and Rose passed away some years ago. The surviving children are Frank Styskal, Mrs. Mary Bastar, and Mrs. Margaret Anderson of David City and Mrs. Lillian Miller of Columbus. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Styskal leaves one brother, Anton Styskal of David City; five grandchildren, Miss Margaret Doty of Chicago, Ill, Helen Dosek, Gideon Gates, and Dorothy Ann Anderson of David City and one great-grandson, Donald William Doty of Lodi, California. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.A. Murph at St Mary's Catholic Church, David City at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning. The pallbearers were Frank Birkel, E.J. Dvorak, John Lanspa, Peter Meysenburg, Mike Mesinger and Joseph Shramek. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon awaiting the arrival of the grandson, John Doty from California. Others in the attendence of the funeral from elsewhere were Miss Margaret Doty of Chicago, Ill, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Miller of Columbus, Mrs. Charles J. Vlach and son, George of Omaha, Dr. and Mrs. R. F. McCreery of Wahoo, Mrs. O.L. Webb of Lincoln and Mrs. Vera Luehe of Seward. A kindly man, with a friendly greeting to everyone, deeply devoted to his home and family, Mr. Styskal had a host of friends who will miss his genial presence on the streets of David City. He was a great lover of nature and was often seen enjoying the beauty of flowers and lawn at his home. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic church and the Z.C.B.J. Lodge Notes: It says he was born in Domamil, but his birth record actually says he was born in Stepkov #1 (Which is right next to Domamil). He was first married to Frantiska "Frances" Dvorak on June 4, 1874. they had 2 sons, Andrew (1876-1885?) and John (1877-1910). Frances died in 1877, then he remarried Anna Kriz Jul 7, 1877 in Fremont.
