After a long and distressing illness of many months, Mrs. Hannah White passed away at her home west of Stockham, on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd. Hannah Proud White was born in London, England, Aug. 29th, 1846, and died Nov. 3rd, 1903, aged 57 years, 2 months and 4 days. She came to this country with her parents in early childhood and settled in New York. In 1851 they emigrated to Wisconsin where she was married to Warren .P White in 1867. In the year 1871 they moved to Nebraska where they have since resided,. Thus briefly reads the life history of this good and noble woman, but to those who knew and loved her best, how much can be read between the lines. They read of a life of love and usefulness, a life of sacrifice and good deeds. Coming to this, a new country, in an early day when courage was needed to meet the trials incident to life on these wide, wild prairies she proved herself a worthy pioneer. A true helpmate and a kind friend and neighbor. To those who knew well and loved her best, no words of praise would intensify their affection or render more hallowed her memory. For many years she bore worthily her christian name, adorning the profession of Christ, being a member of the Presbyterian church since 1878, uniting with the church during the pastorate of the late Father Giltner. She was the mother of five sons, four of whom beside her husband survive her, John, Perry, Melvin and Owen. Her son Ernest died about six years ago. Her funeral occurred Thursday Nov. 5th, and was conducted by Rev. John Bennett at the Seatonville church. The text for the sermon was from the words of scripture found in II Timothy, 4 chapter, 7 verse, and was a selection of the deceased as were also the hymns sang, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Just as I Am Without One Plea." Her funeral was largely attended by sorrowing relatives and friends. Loving hands covered the casket with the beauiiful flowers of autumn. Relatives from a distance attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Patten of Verona, Wis., and John Proud of Cambridge, Neb.
