Feb 9,1950 Atkinson Graphic HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO J DVORAK, 73 John Dvorak, 73, resident of this community for nearly 40 years, suffered a fatal heart attack Monday at his farm home 2 and 1/2 miles south of Atkinson. Mr Dvorak apparently in good health, had been chopping wood Monday and gone in his house to lie down. Members of the family thought that while resting he had fallen asleep, but when one of them went to arouse him it was learned that he had died. Also living on the farm, but in another house, is a son, John J Dvorak and family, Young John is commander of Farley Tushla American Legion of Atkinson. Funeral services were held Thursday at Dvorak farm home and Methodist Church, Atkinson, burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. John Dvorak, was born Feb 27,1876 in Czechoslovakia, died Feb 5,1950 at his home near Atkinson, at the age of 73 years, 11 months 9 days. He was one of eight children born to Joseph and Frances Dvorak, who brought their family to America in 1883 when John was 7 years of age. Their new home was near Madison, Nebraska, where John grew to manhood. He was married in 1906 to Barbara Koudela at West Point, He brought his family to Atkinson in 1911 and located on a farm 2 and 1/2 miles south of town. A farmer and livestock raiser all of his life, he realized the importance of renewing soil fertility and he was one of the first to introduce soil enriching legumes into this section. He also believed in the worth of education and was ambitious for his seven children to have the advantage of the schools. He was an active member of ZCGJ fraternal order until many of his old friends were taken in death. His sudden death is mourned by his wife, four sons, William of Los Angeles, Calif; Rudolph, Frank and John of Atkinson; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joe Sladek of Verdigre, Mrs. Al Havranek and Mrs. Robert H Clifford of Atkinson; 3 brothers, Frank, William and Thomas and one sister Mrs. Frank Veck, all of Verdigre. He also leaves 12 grandchildren of whom he was very fond, and a great many neighbors and friends who will cherish the memory of his kindly spirit and neighborliness.
