Mrs. Julia Cupp (nee Fults), wife of J. Walter Cupp, died at her home in East St. Louis, Illinois Tuesday morning, August 23, 1932. Tubercyulosis was the cause of death. Her age was 46 years, 2 months and 4 days. Julia Fults was born near Chaflin Bridge, Monroe County, Illinois, June 19, 1886. She came to Ava with her parents at the age of 15 years. She graduated from the Ava High School, after which she attended the Normal College at Carbondale for a number of terms. Following this she taught school in this vicinity for some four or five years and for a time was employed in the Ava Citizen office. In January 1912, she and Walter Cupp were united in marriage, the ceremony being solemnized in this city. One child, a daughter, was born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Cupp have made their home in East St. Louis for about twenty years. Mrs. Cupp wazs a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of East St. Louis and belonged to various societies of that church. The deceased is survived by the husband and daughter, Miss Margaret, of East St. Louis; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Bade of Valmeyer, Illinois, Mrs. Ellen Boedecker of University City, Mo., and Mrs. Rose Blette of Campbell Hill, Illinois; two brothers, Charles and Rufus Fults, both of Ava, Illinois; three half-brothers, Chris, Sam and George Fults, all of St. Louis; and one half-sister, Mrs. Sallie Henerfouth of Belleville, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's Church in East St. Louis on Thursday, August 25, 1932 by Father Slattery. At the Ava Evergreen Cemetery, the same day, the casket was opened to allow friends to view the remains after which the body was laid to rest with the regular Catholic burial rites.
