PUBLISHED IN EMERY COUNTY PROGRESS October 6, 1900 George Moffitt of Orangeville died yesterday morning of a illness of long standing. He was about 38 years old. PUBLISHED IN MANTI MESSENGER October 6, 1900 A telegram was received here yesterday by the Moffitt family, bringing the sad news of the death of George Moffitt, who passed away this week in Emery County. Some of the Moffitt boys left Thursday night for that place to attend the funeral services of their brother. George was well known throughout this county, and the news of his death will be a surprise to them. *Note: Most descendents of the Moffitt clan have George's death date as October 15, 1900; place unknown. It was while searching through family history stuff I found the written memories about Margaret Easton Moffitt written by her daughter Nettie's good friend Katie Fail Fullmer Sevy. She writes about Margaret one memorial day visiting the grave of her son George in the Orangeville cemetery in the later years of her life. It talked about George who after long years of being away from the family returned home to be closer to his mother & relatives. At that time it was noted that the grave "marker" for George was faded and barely readable. It has since faded and Orangeville cemetery does not even have record of his death or burial. His grave is considered an "Unknown". From this information I found the newspaper articles giving the date as 10 days earlier than the 15.
