OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, Friday 22 December 1911: Sterling Items Sister Serena Peacock, wife of John L. Peacock of this place died at their home Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. She had been in poor health for a number of years. Mrs. Peacock was born at Provo, April 20, 1855, the daughter of Andrew J. and Margaret Easton Moffitt. She was the mother of nine children, two having preceded her to the great beyond. Those living are Charles M. of Fairview, Ernest E., Leo C., Mrs. Maggie May Bailey, Calvin, Mrs. Clara Anderson and Wendell all of Sterling. She is survived by six brothers and three sisters. She has been a faithful Latter-day Saint. All of her children except Charles were by her bedside at the time of death. The Manti Messenger, Friday 29 December 1911: Sterling Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. John L. Peacock were held from the school house Sunday at 1 o'clock conducted by Bishop Louis Olsen. The speakers were N. C. Christenson of Manti Harrison Edwards of Sterling John B. Lowry, W. K. Barton and Francis Cox of Manti. Interment in town cemetery. The dedicatory prayer by Bishop Louis Olson. Despite the biting cold a large concourse of people followed the remains to the grave. Two of her sisters came over from Castle Valley. Friends and relatives were also present from Fairview, Gunnison and Mayfield.
