Verna was the owner/operator of the former "Verna's Care" in downtown Beaver Crossing from 1952 until 1979. When told she had prepared of 1, 155,000 meals at the café, she smiled and said, "And I loved every minute of it". Verna was an avid sports fan and she was honored as the BCHS All-Sports Fan in 1964---she still attended baseball and volleyball games this past year. She gave so unselfishly to her family and friends throughout her life, even caring for several high school students for lengthy periods of time.
