May 18, 1961 Chisago County Press Elmer Conrad Nelson was born March 5, 1901 at Viking in Marshall County, Minnesota, the son of Carl William Nelson and his wife, Jennie Marie(Bronson) Nelson who were farming. He was baptized June 24, 1902. As a boy he came with his parents to this area of Minnesota and was confirmed in Chisago Lake Church on May 28, 1916 in a. Lads of Pastor J.E. Oslund. As a you man of 32 years Elmer Nelson took his wife from North Branch in the person of Evelyn Anderson, being married in Minneapolis by Pastor Oscar Sandall on July 4, 1933. The couple moved to Lindstrom where they have lived ever since and where he worked as a carpenter finisher for the last 20 years in St. Paul and Minneapolis. One son Floyd was given to this union. On Tuesday, May 9, 1961, Elmer Nelson was stricken with a heart attack in his own back yard from which he did not survive quietly departing this life at the age of 60 years, 2 mo and 14 days. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and one brother all of whom died in infancy. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Anderson Nelson and by his son Floyd who has spent the last 6 mo in military training. Four sisters are also among the survivors: Esther, Mrs. Olger Oseth of Minneapolis, Mrs Math Doffing, St. Paul, Violet Nelson of St. Paul and Ethel, Mrs Helmer Gustafson of Shafer, two brothers Richard Nelson of Mound and John E Nelson of Shafer, also survive. He was an uncle to 6 nieces and 5 nephews. Among those saddened by this departure are also neighbors and friends. "Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart." Psalm 31:24. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery at Lindstrom. Funeral services were conducted from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City, Minnesota, Friday, May 12, 1961 at 2:00 pm with Pastor W Burnett Benson officiating. Mr. Roger Crary organist, Mrs Velma Sundberg soloist.
