May 8, 1924 Chisago County Press Funeral services for Mrs. C W Nelson, well known and respected resident of Franconia township who passed away at the Taylors Falls Hospital last Saturday morning following a paralytic stroke, were conducted from the family home at 2:00 yesterday afternoon and the Chisago Lake church at 2:30, Rev Oscar Sandahl officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Chisago Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers were C J Hanson, Victor Leedholm, A Palmquist, Emil Grandstrand, David Hawkinson and Chas A Jonason. Mrs. Nelson had been a member of the Chisago Lakes Church since 1916. Deceased had been in poor health since early in the year and under the care of physicians at various times. She had suffered three paralytic strokes since the first of January. Two weeks ago her son, Elmer Nelson became seriously ill with a complication of diseases and was rushed to the Bethesda Hospital at St Paul, where he submitted to an operation. The shock was hard to bear and she received her last stroke the following Monday, and was removed to the Taylors Falls Hospital where she was attended by Dr Haseltine. No hope was expressed for her recovery and the end came on Saturday, May3. According to members of the family Elmer suffered a relapse this week at the St Paul hospital and his condition yesterday was reported serious. He was unaware of his mother's passing until Tuesday. Mrs. Jennie Marie Nelson was born at Alnon, Medelpad, Sweden, on February 3, 1873 and was 51 years old at the time of her death. She came to America with her family in 1882 and made her home at Warren, Minnesota. On October 31, 1896 she was united in marriage to C W Nelson and they resided at Warren for a short time. Later they moved to Colorado where they lived for 6 months, then went to Minneapolis where they resided for another half year. They purchased a farm near Chisago City and after making their home there for 2 years purchased a farm south of Shafer where they have since resided. Besides her sorrowing husband, Mrs. Nelson leaves 7 children, an aged mother and two sisters. Her mother resides in Viking, Marshall County, Minnesota. The children are: Mrs. Esther Olson, Richard, Elmer, Ida, Violet, John and Ethel. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
