Amanda Eliza (Higgins) Crouch was born 3 May 1858 in Bethany, Missouri to Adrian Anglin Higgins (1815-1884) and Mary Ellen Walden Higgins (1827-1907). She married Aaron Baird Crouch Jr. (1855-1948) on 28 December 1876 in Arcadia, Nebraska. They had seven children. They lived in Nebraska, Iowa, and finally settled in Hanson County, South Dakota. She died 25 February 1944 at the age of 85. OBITUARY: Amanda Eliza (Higgins) Crouch (1858-1944) MRS. A.B. CROUCH DIES; RITES TO BE SUNDAY AT FULTON Mrs. Amanda Eliza Crouch, age 85, died Friday morning, February 25, 1944, at her home in Mitchell, SD. Mrs. Crouch was born May 3, 1858 at Bethany, Missouri. She had lived in and near Fulton, SD until December 30, 1943 when she moved to Mitchell. She is survived by her husband, Aaron B. Crouch; six children, Clifford A. Crouch, Winnie Jane Crouch, and A.B. [Byrl] Crouch, all of Mitchell, Lily L. Washburn, Artesian, Allison C. [Claude] Crouch, Wessington Springs, and Mrs. Gladys M. Montgomery, Huron; a brother, Alfred A. Higgins, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Smith, Lamoni, Iowa, and Mrs. Saphrona Predmore, Riverton, Wyoming. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 1944 at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Fulton. Burial will be made at Fulton [Cemetery] under the direction of the Broadbent Funeral home. The body will lie in state Saturday, February 26th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Broadbent Funeral chapel. (Daily Republic, Mitchell, South Dakota, Friday, 25 February 1944)
