Mrs. Jennie Chrismer Dies Following Long Illness. Last Rites Monday Afternoon Following a long decline in health, death came late Saturday afternoon, November 5, to bring to a close the earthly journey of Jennie Margaret Chrismer. Although death was not unexpected, the passing of this beloved woman cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire community that had been blessed by her works and labors for more than sixty years. Her many fine qualities of mind and heart made a lasting imprint that time cannot erase. While health permitted, she was generous with her time and talent in all things which she believed would make the community a better place in which to live, and her family and friends more happy. Less active in recent years because of the infirmities of age, she continued to enjoy the fellowship of friends in her home, and was pleased to hear the recordings made of the church services, which were brought to her by her pastor. Funeral service was conducted from the Presbyterian church at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. Ward Bjerke officiating. Her four sons and two grandsons acted as pall bearers, and music was furnished by Mrs. William Hague, Mrs. Elmer Yost, and Mrs. Gilbert Ball. Arrangements were in charge of Ritchey Funeral Home and burial made in the Yuma cemetery. The following life sketch was read at the service: Jennie Margaret Johnston, second eldest of four daughters of Samuel and Jane Johnston, was born near Omro, Wisconsin on January 16, 1861. She was educated in the schools of that place and in young womanhood went to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was employed in a department store. In 1880 she came to Yuma, Colorado, to the home of her aunt, Miss Mary L. Pratt. She Pre-empted land near Yuma and has been a resident of this community for the 63 intervening years. On October 14, 1889, at the home of her aunt near Yuma, she was married to Charles C. Chrismer. Seven children, two of whom died in infancy, were born to them. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, and was baptized in that faith at an early age. Her husband, Charles C. Chrismer, preceded her in death on April 29, 1934. Mrs. Chrismer had been in failing health for several years and had been bedfast since September 14th of this year. She passed away at her home on November 5, 1949 at the age of 88 years, nine months and twenty days. She is survived by four sons, Harold, Robert, Wilbur and Rex Chrismer, and one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Scott, all of Yuma. Also fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.--Yuma Pioneer, Thursday, Nov. 10, 1949, Pg. 1
