Bio
Ernest was baptized on May 3, 1903 at Peace Lutheran in Deshler by Pastor John Schwerin and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stoddard on March 31, 1918 by Pastor Erich C. Meyer. He attended school at Athol, Kansas and then finished at the Loyalty School District #73 in Thayer County, Nebraska. Ernest attended barber college in Sioux City, Iowa in 1926. Following this, Ernest was a barber in several places. In 1930 be moved to a farm near Stoddard and then farmed until 1971. After his marriage in 1971 he and his wife moved to Hebron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife who died December 18, 1989; two sisters, Augusta Engel and Meta Mammen; and three brothers, Henry, Herman and George. Ernest is survived by two brothers, Walter Virus of Deshler and Ludwig Virus of Hebron; three step-daughters, Betty Schmidt and Byrna Elliott of Abilene, Kansas and Brenda Williams of Lincoln; one Step-son, Gary Liesenfeld of Fairbury; special friend Alma Segelken of Hebron. Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with Pastor Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Pallbearers were Norman Schmidt, Michael Holt, Timothy Dinkelman, Mark Reinwald, Roger Virus and Max Hinrichs. Honorary bearers were Don Engel, Marvin Engle, Phil Apley and Richard Johnson. Interment was in Hebron City Cemetery in Hebron.
