Published in The Grand Island Independent on August 2, 2011: Florence E. Zadina, 87, of Ord died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord. Florence was born on Feb. 14, 1924, in Valley County to Kajetan and Sophie (Kapustka) Setlik. Florence married Frank J. Zadina Jr. on Jan. 20, 1947, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. He preceded her in death. Survivors are: sister, Bernice Vodehnal of Rose Lane Home in Loup City, sisters-in-law, Minnie Setlik of Grand Island, Lillian Setlik of Ord and Dorothy Setlik of Sacramento, Calif. and a host of relatives and friends. Florence attended a one-room rural school, District 62, Round Park, in Valley County and graduated from Comstock High School in 1942. Upon graduation, she clerked in Ord at Carson's Grocery Store. The Zadinas farmed and raised registered Hereford cattle west of Ord in the Geranium area until 1988, when they retired and moved into Ord. Florence was a member of the St. Wenceslaus (Geranium) Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she served as chairman, secretary-treasurer and circle chairman of the altar societies. She was a 50-year member of the WFLA Lodge 112. Florence enjoyed many annual fishing trips to Canada with her husband, as well as going to Czech dances. She will always be remembered for her good cooking and kolaches that she shared with many. In addition to her husband, those preceding her to eternal life were her parents; sisters, Ann Setlik, Josephine Knopik, Helen Dubas and Clara Krikac; and brothers, Henry, Mike, Leonard, Ted and Adrian Setlik. Burial was in the Ord Catholic Cemetery, Ord, NE.
