World War II Veteran
Adrian Robert Setlik, 83, of Sacramento, California, died Sept. 8. 2010, at Appleridge Assisted Living in Sacramento. Adrian was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Valley County near Comstock to Kajetan and Sophie Kapustka Setlik. Adrian attended District 62 Round Park a one-room rural school house and graduated from Comstock High School in 1944. He continued to live on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army in June 1945 during WWII. Adrian served one year in Italy and was discharged in February 1947. Adrian then worked with his brother-in-law in a farming operation. He was also been employed at the Bear Brand Hosiery in Kearney, Missouri and Mid-West Furniture in Chadron, Nebraska. On November, 28, 1959, Adrian was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Kuklish of Sargent, Nebraska. They continued farming until October 1961 and then moved to Sacramento, California where Dorothy taught first grade and Adrian became assistant manager of Jamaica Plaza apartments and worked at the Sacramento Army Depot. Adrian attended the American River College for two years and received his Associate of Arts degree in Horticulture. He then was an irrigation specialist for the Sacramento County Parks and Recreation before retiring in March 1992. Dorothy joined him in retirement and took the "Golden Handshake" in 1993. Since then, they stayed busy with endless home and backyard projects. Adrian and Dorothy also enjoyed yearly trips back to Nebraska to visit family and friends. Adrian enjoyed polka and country western music, going to dances and visiting close friends. He was a life member of the VFW and a longtime member of the Polish-American Club in Sacramento. Survivors are: his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy; sisters, Bernice Vodehnal of Roselane in Loup City and Florence Zadina of Valley View Living Center; sisters-in-law, Minnie Setlik of Grand Island, Nebraska and Lillian Setlik of Ord, Nebraska special friends, Victor and Lillian McCoy family and a host of friends and relatives Adrian was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, Mike, Leonard and Ted; and sisters, Anna Setlik, Helen Dubas, Josie Knopik and Clara Krikac.
