Thanks to contributor #47017020 Grand Island Independent 10 Nov 2006: ORD — Frank J. Zadina, 84, of Ord died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Skilled Care Unit in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at Ord, with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a rosary at 7. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Zadina was born March 10, 1922, at Ord to Frank and Frances (Seda) Zadina. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Florence Zadina of Ord. Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank attended Hillsdale District 30 grade school and was a 1940 graduate of Ord High School, where he received a State FFA award. After graduation, he attended the Frye Aircraft School in Omaha. He was employed by Hartman Aircraft Southgate Company in California, then transferred back to the Glenn South Aircraft in Omaha. In 1942, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy, receiving basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Station and naval aircraft school in Chicago Navy Pier. In 1943, he was given a medical discharge. Frank returned to the Geranium area in Valley County, where he farmed and raised registered Hereford cattle. On Jan. 20, 1947, he was united in marriage to Florence Setlik and they continued the farming operation until retiring and moving to Ord in 1984. Frank was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at Geranium, serving as secretary-treasurer and trustee, and also was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at Ord. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and a 50-year member of the W.F.L.A Lodge 112. Frank enjoyed going to dances, playing cards, all sports, which includes Husker football, and outdoor life, especially the many fishing trips to Canada. Much of his retirement was spent compiling both his and Florence's family genealogy. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Edward and Emil, and a half sister, Lillian Zadina Sedlacek. Memorials may be given to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
