Bio

3rd of six children of John (1835-1916) and Theda (1835-1913) Suntken, John Henry was born in Germany. Since young boys were conscripted for the Army, the family decided to emigrate in 1877. They farmed near Sibley. John Henry married Marie Kathryn Wichmann in Anchor on Dec. 6, 1899. They had 13 children. John owned and operated a skating rink and also worked in the grain elevator. He became the Town Marshall. Besides acting as lawman, he operated the town's water system which was also the jail and was located off the alley behind the Township Hall and next door to their home.
