Barbara (spelled at her time Barbora) was the wife of early immigrant Jakub (Jacob) Holub. They were among the first Czechs to make the dangerous voyage to American in 1855- ending up in Iowa- were they farmed and raised their children for some 20years. Then on the advise of Jakub's cousin Valentine Holub, they made the trip south to Texas- Lavaca County and founded the small community of Moravia along with his son-in law Ignac (J.E.) Jalufka. Barbara was born in Moravia during the occupation of the Austrian Empire - in a little village called Mnisi and in the district of Novy Jicin. Her parents were Jakub Holub and Magdalena Kolos. She gave birth to 12 children. Barbara was my great-great grandmother.
