Richard William Buchanan, 93, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2011. Born November 30, 1917 to George Franklin Buchanan and Louisa Jane Allen in Lyman, Wayne County, Utah. He was the sixth of twelve children. He married Thelma Margurite Christensen on May 22, 1942. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1946. They are the parents of five children, Mignon (Ray) Jones, Dan (Jean), Rex (Cherie), Lyle (Debra), Warren (Debi), nineteen grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He ran the stake poultry farm, in Midvale, Utah for the LDS Church for thirty years until his retirement in 1984. Richard and Margurite loved spending time together fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, and pitching horseshoes. Richard won many trophies and medals for both bowling and horseshoes in state and national tournaments including the Utah Summer Games, and the Utah Senior Olympics. He was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many different callings, including serving as ward clerk for several bishops, and working in the temple for several years. He loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them all. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and five brothers and three sisters. The family would like to thank Wentworth Assisted Living and Sunbrook Hospice for their kind and caring service the past few weeks. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m., in the Midvale First Ward Chapel, 308 West 7500 South, Midvale, Utah. A viewing will also be held on Friday night, May 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), Midvale, Utah. Interment: Sandy City Cemetery.
