Bio

John Rollin Buchanan, age 82, of Roosevelt passed away peacefully Oct. 3, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was born May 31, 1927 in Teasdale, Utah to George Franklin and Louisa Jane Allen Buchanan. He married Donna Todd on Dec. 5, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He then went on a mission to the Northwestern States. Later he and his family served a mission in Whiterocks. In his later years John and Donna served a mission in St. Louis. John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities through the years. His favorite calling was working in the Vernal LDS Temple for 12 years. John and his brother Vernon co-owned the Buchanan Feed Store for 50 years. The Old Mill Park in Roosevelt is dedicated to John and his brother Vernon. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, building and making trinkets for his yard, working in his beautiful yard and garden and going to Yellowpine Campground for family reunions. He is survived by his wife, Donna, Roosevelt; Julia (Rudy) Monsen, Altamont; Shauna (Perry) Peacock, Springville; Sherrie Cope, Kaysville; Rosalie (Richard) Plummer, Grass Valley, Calif.; Rolene (Dan) Croft, Layton; Donald (Stacy) Buchanan, Dallas, Texas, 49 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Richard Buchanan, Midvale; Neva (Vance) Prescott, Emmett, Idaho; Vernon (Margie) Buchanan, Roosevelt; Hayle Buchanan, Ogden; and Bernell (Barbie) Buchanan, Midvale. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Todd R. and Todd D. Buchanan; brothers and sisters, George LaVerian, Jesse, Bryce, Rula Taylor, Beryl Bennion, Lydia Peterson; and granddaughter, Trudy Suzette Monsen. Funeral services Thursday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Roosevelt East Stake Center. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and Thursday at the church from 9:30 - 10:45 am. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors presented by the American Legion Post #64. -Vernal Express, October 7, 2009
