Bio

Oneta Faye Gardner Green-Hamby was born August 28, 1928 in Iverson,Texas to Leonard and Belva Williams Gardner. Oneta was the oldest of seven children. Her brothers and sisters were Jimmy Gardner, Gaynelle Gardner Seale, Bobby Gardner, Shirley Gardner Jennings, Tommy Gardner, June Gardner Johnston, and Betty JoAnn Gardner. She graduated from Iverson school and attended Hill Jr. College and Sherman State College. After World War II, Oneta married George Roland Green,II of Italy, Texas. They had three children; Joanna Green Ridlehuber, Rhonda Green Windham, and George Roland Green,III. Her grandchildren are: James Roland Ridlehuber, Rochelle Ridlehuber, Michelle Ridlehuber Hampton,Heather Windham, and Alison Green. Her great-grandchildren are: Reagan, Corbin, and Dawson Ridlehuber,Colby Hampton, and Clayton Hellner. Her husband, George Green, preceeded her in death in 1967. She was also preceeded in death by her husband, R.D. Hamby of Italy. Oneta had worked as a bookkeeper, tax assessor-collector for the Italy School district,and she was the Justice of the Peace of Precint 3 in Ellis County at the time of her death.Oneta was killed as the result of an automobile accident when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was struck by a drunk driver. Her death was tragic and shocking to everyone who knew her. Oneta is remembered by people in Italy as kind,compassionate, yet firm and fair when performing her J.P. duties. She would help anyone in need and was loved and respected by those she helped. She is remembered by family as being a beautiful, strong, talented, and loving mother and grandmother.
