James Wesley [Wes] Phillips was born 21 February 1882 in Booneville, Logan, Arkansas, USA. He was the oldest of the ten children born to William [Bill] Thomas Phillips and Sarah Cora Holland. Siblings: Sarah Vianer [Phillips] Coker (1884-1957), Myrtle M. [Phillips] Robinson (1889-1966), Stephen B. Phillips (1891-1936), Odis Phillips (1894-1894), Ola Mae [Phillips] King (1894-1960), Zula Jane [Phillips] Robinson (1895-1940), Ruby Marie Phillips (1899-1903) and William Thomas Phillips (1900-1972). Wesley married Lydia Louisa Lowe on 4 June 1903 in Arkansas. They were the parents of six children, all of which were born in Arkansas; Harvey Phillips (1904-1908), William Manual Phillips (1905-1961), Maudie Rae [Phillips] Rowlett (1908-1976), Charlie Phillips (died as an infant), Sylvia Mae [Phillips] Belser (1917-1989) and Helen Marie [Phillips] Winchester/Foster (1920-1998). Wesley and Lydia lived in Arkansas for a time after their marriage. In 1920 they were living in Logan County, Arkansas and at that time Wesley was working as a Laborer for the railroad. His brother Stephen was living with them as he had lost his wife and 2 year old son in 1919 to complications from the Spanish Flu. Between 1920 and 1930, Wes and Lydia moved their family to Shady. Point, Leflore, Oklahoma. His wife Lydia passed away in 1939 and after her death, Wes moved in with his daughter Sylvia Phillips Stroud. He later traveled to Chowcilla, California and it was there that he passed away on 8 October 1944 in Chowchilla, Madera County, California. His body was taken back to Oklahoma and he was laid to rest next to his wife, Lydia in the New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, LeFlore, Oklahoma.
