Bio

Zula Jane Phillips was born 17 October 1895 to William [Bill] Thomas Phillips (1863-1901) and Sara Cora [Holland] Phillips (1862-?). Siblings: James Wesley Phillips (1883-1944), Sarah Vinia [Phillips] Coker (1884-1957), Myrtle Edola [Phillips] Robinson (1889-1966), Stephen 'B' Phillips (1891-1936), Ola Mae [Phillips] Canada/King (1894-1960) Odis Phillips (1894-1894), Ruby Marie (1899-1902) William Thomas Phillips (1900-1972) and 2 half-brothers (George Washington Hunt and Frank Hugh Hunt). Her father was shot and killed on May 18, 1901 and later her mother married Gilbert Hunt. On November 9, 1913 she married William Elmer Robinson (his last name has also been spelled Robison & Robertson) in Booneville, Logan, Arkansas. Elmer is the brother of John Elven Robinson (Zula's brother-in-law and her sister Myrtle's husband). According to the birth certificate for Ardie, Zula and Elmer were the parents of four children; William Edward Robinson (5 June 1915), Woodrow Wilson Robinson (15 Dec 1917-died before 1920) Unknown name (born around 1920) and Ardie C. Robinson (Stillborn baby boy born on 9 Feb 1922). The 1920 Census shows the family living in Logan County, Arkansas. She and Elmer were divorced and Zula married Leander A. Jones (1878-1937) on 25 October 1928 in Bonanza, Sebastian, Arkansas. Leander died on 11 September 1937 in Phoenix, Arizona and a month later on 22 October 1937 Zula was married again, this time to John Vance Hodges (1868–1953) in Fort Smith, Sebastian, Arkansas. When her son Edward registered for the draft for World War II, he listed his mother's address in Boynton, Oklahoma and her last name was Hodges. She passed away on November 3, 1940 in McAlester, Pittsburg County. Family records suggest that she is buried in Boynton, Muskogee, Oklahoma
