Married Etta Estella (Essie) Hamm. Children: Opal Phillips 1913 – 1990, Lloyd Phillips 1914 – 1919, and twins; Roy C. Phillips 1918 – 1918? and Coy C. Phillips 1918 – 1918? The 1920 Census for Arkansas shows him widowed and living with his older brother James Wesley. His 2nd marriage was to a Viola and they had one daughter, Jewel Juanita Phillips. I think that Viola passed away as Jewel is shown living with uncle George Phillips and his family on the 1930 Census Record. Stephen later married Lola Clementine Glover on 8 June 1922 in Logan County, Arkansas. They were the parents of Hazel Mae Phillips (1923–1937), Dolly Lee [Phillips] Edwards/Cappas (1924-2021), Wanda Lee Phillips (1926–1938), J.W. Phillips (1930-2009), Lola Rita [Phillips] Stith (1932-) and Freda Mae Phillips.
