Helena was the daughter of Randolph S. and Elizabeth Hannah Murff. She was the first wife of Alfred Monroe Smith. Their children were Clarenda/Clarinda Elizabeth Hollingsworth, Mary Rebecca Murff, David Hilery Smith, Willie/Wylie Marion Smith, Randolph Murff Smith, Margaret A. Smith, and George Washington Smith. Alfred married her sister, Elizabeth Murff Findley after her death.
