Bio

I have researched the ONEY and STARR families for years. If you are related I would love to hear from you. Nancy was the daughter of Sarah Ann Matilda Alexander and William C. Oney. After the death of Nancy's father, Nancy's widowed mother Sarah Ann Matilda (Alexander) Oney married James K. Loden 17 July 1870 Harrison County, Texas, and third marriage to Mark Darnell. Nancy M. Oney married first Hezikiah Oney. Hezikiah Oney was a widower and older than Nancy M. Oney and had grown children family by the time he married Nancy 23 Jan 1864 Harrison Co, Texas. Exact relationship between Hezikiah Oney and Nancy M. Oney is unknown. They had one daughter named J. Elizabeth Oney. "Lizie" married Andy J Dickinson 08 Jun 1882 Marion County, Texas. After death of Hezikiah , Nancy married J. A. Starr, who had several children by his first wife, Mary Jackson, who had passed away before 1880. Family members passed down the story that after Joe Starr died, Nancy and her four daughters lived about five miles from the nearest neighbor. She fired off a rifle every day about 5pm, to let the nearest neighbor know everything was alright. Daughter Della was found living with Nancy's younger sister, after Nancy's death in 1905. Altho I am not certain what the family relationship was between Nancy M. Oney and Hesekiah Oney, I do believe they were related before marriage. There is a CW packet on microfilm for this Hezikiah Oney. Some of the info given on microfilm is a copy of the Certificate of Disability for Discharge was his age of 51 years, birth place as Lincoln county, Tn. He was 6'2" tall with light colored hair, fair complection and blue eyes, a farmer by occupation. He enlisted in the Texas infantry, in Jefferson, Tx. April 12, 1862 and signed on for three years. The Certificate of Disability for Discharge was dated October 24, 1862. Hezikiah Oney was a private. It said he was afflicted with rheumatism and unable to perform his duties. I can make out Little Rock, Ark on one page but cannot read if that is where he was located or only where he was received his discharge papers. Thank you, Jane Eubanks for the great photo of the grave stone.
