Bio
Joe J. Schroeder, age 81, of West, passed away late Monday evening, August 14, 2000 at his residence. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. Mr. Schroeder was born on June 5, 1919 near Tours, the son of Joe and Margaret Schroeder. He married Lillie R. Hykel on January 7, 1946 in Tours. Joe worked as a farmer for most of his life. He also worked for the General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for twenty-eight years until he retired in 1981. He enjoyed watching Texas Ranger Baseball games. He was a member of the General Tire Retirement Club; United Rubber Workers Union; and a lifetime member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Schroeder of West; four sons, Joe Schroeder and wife Joyce, Richard Schroeder and wife Margaret, and Dennis Schroeder and wife Sharon, all of West, and David Schroeder an wife Sharon of Ross; two daughters, Carol Matus and husband Ronnie, and Joyce Boyd and husband Ricky, all of West; one brother, Frank Schroeder of Waco; one sister, Gertrude Machac of Ross; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Troy Schroeder, Jeff Schroeder, R. J. Matus, James Schroeder, Brian Matus and Justin Boyd. Honorary Pallbearers are Kerinne Schroeder, Terri Schroeder, Krystal Schroeder, Adam Matus, Zachary Boyd and Daniel Schroeder. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Community hospice or St. Martin's C.C.E. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements. The West News, August 17, 2000
