Bio

Frank J. Schroeder, age 88, of Leroy, passed away Thursday July 15, 2004 in a Waco nursing home. Rosary was recited 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West; followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:15 p.m., with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post 4819 in St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours. Mr. Schroeder was born January 9, 1916 in McLennan County and had lived in the Leroy-Tours area most of his life. He was employed at General Tire and Rubber Co. for a number of years. Mr. Schroeder married Annie Roessler, August 15, 1942 at Tours. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1993. He was also preceded in death by an infant son on Feb. 12, 1957, his mother and father, Joe A. Schroeder and Margaret Uptmore Schroeder; two brothers, Clement Schroeder and Jodie J. Schroeder and a sister, Hattie (Sis) Machac. He was a membher of St. Mary's Chruch of the Assumption in West, Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West, a past member of the Leroy Volunteer Fire Dept. and the West ISD school board. Mr. Schroeder was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army and was a member of VFW Post 4819 of West. Mr. Schroeder is survived by daughters, Cecilia Soukup and husband Bobby of Asa, Mary Jane Searls and Sam Pettey of San Antonio, Nancy Kallus and husband Larry of Leroy and Dianne Reed and husband Ernie of Hallsburg; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude (Gal) Machac of Ross; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jodie (Lillie) Schroeder of Tours; grandchildren Robert Frank Soukup of Weatherford, SSgt Henry W. Soukup, USMC and wife Dandi of Yuma, AZ, Jamie Joe Ruth and husband Shannon of Leroy and Jason E. Reed of Hallsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Herman Gene Roessler, Jodie Schroeder, Lawrence Machac, Cotton Dieterich, Dennis Schroeder, and Augie John Podsednik. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, and membhers of VFW Post #4819. A special thank you for the wonderful care given by Barbara Duncan and staff at Crestview Nursing Home and to Linda Halamik of Hillcrest Community Hospice.
