Josef "Joe" Holub Jr. was born 3-9-1901 in Moulton, Lavaca Co., Texas. He was one of ten children born to Josef "Joe" Holub and Marie "Mary" Mikulik Holub. Siblings are: Anna "Annie" Holub (Drozd) - b. 6-20-1897, d.12-23-1978 Bozina "Bessie" Holub (Moeller) - b. 7-19-1902, d. 12-9-1948 Marie "Mary" Holub (Koudelka) - b. 9-10-1904, d. 2-14-1998 twins: Charles Joe Holub - b. 8-30-1905, d. 12-1-1971 Carrie Lillian Holub (Drozd) - b. 8-30-1905, d. 6-2-1976 twins: Vaclav "Jim" Holub - b. 9-13-1907, d. 4-7-1990 Sidmila Elizabeth "Lillie" Holub (Bohuslav) - b. 9-13-1907, d. 12-26-2008 twins - boy and girl who died at birth On Oct. 17, 1922 he married Elexca Agnes Berckenhoff at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton. To this union were born the following children: Johnnie J. Holub Malada Anna Holub (Knezek) Jimmie Holub George Holub Archie Holub Donald Holub Joe died on Jan. 30, 1976 at the age of 74. ------------------------------------------- (obituary) Shiner Gazette, 12 Feb 1976 Joe Holub Jr. Rites Held Joe Holub Jr., of Moulton, passed away in the Renger Memorial Hospital, Hallettsville, Friday morning, January 30, 1976 at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 10 days. Family rosary services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 30 led by Mrs. Edgar Freytag. Another rosary was recited Saturday at 8:30 p.m., led by Rev. Robert E. Schmidt. Members of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph's Society stood by as honor guards. The body lay in state at the Smith Funeral Home in Moulton until 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, when it was conveyed to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church for Requiem Mass at 2 p.m. The pastor, Rev. Robert E. Schmidt, was celebrant of the Mass. Altar boys were his grandsons, Glenn, George Jr. and Gregory Holub. Mrs. Victor Schoenfeld, William Styrk and Mrs. George Jasek Sr., accompianed by Sharon Kubicek on the organ, rendered spiritual hymns throughout the Mass. In fulfilling his special wish, the following musicians played his favorite waltz, "The Innocence Waltze" at the graveside, Henry Brosch, Leon Heinrich, George Koudelka, George Jurecka, Donnie and David Wavra, Donald Cernosek, Pete Rainosek, Leonard Darilek and Henry Kubala. Pallbearers were his nephews, Marvin Bohuslav, Arnold Moeller, Vernon Drozd, Charles Holub Jr., George Berckenhoff and Wesley Holub. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Wayne and John Holub and nephew, Milton Holub. Mr. Holub was born in Moulton, March 9, 1901, a son of Joseph and Mary (Mikulik) Holub. He was married to Elexca Berckenhoff, October 17, 1922 in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moulton. They settled in Moulton where they farmed and ranched. In 1971 he was awarded a certificate of merit for outstanding accomplishment, and in 1972 as conservationalist of the year. He was also a band member for 58 years of which most of his years he played with the Henry Brosch Orchestra. Mr. Holub was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph Society. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elexca Holub of Moulton; one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Milada) Knezek of Bryan; five sons, Johnnie Holub of Schulenburg, Jimmy and George Holub of Moulton, Archie Holub of Houston, Donald Holub of Gonzales; eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Julius (Annie) Drozd of Hallettsville, Mrs. Bohumil (Lillie) Bohuslav, Mrs. Emil (Carrie) Drozd, both of Moulton, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Koudelka of Ganado; and one brother, Jim Holub of Flatonia. He was preceded in death by his father, May 17, 1969; his mother, July 19, 1957; one brother, Charles Holub Sr. and one sister, Mrs. Louis (Bessie Moeller. Contributed by Matt Cross
