Bio

Faye (McHaney) Cross, 86, passed away Saturday January 22, 2011 at a nursing home in Midland. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Sylvester with burial at Newman Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Monday at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin. Faye was born May 13, 1924 to J.C. and Molly (Scallorn) McHaney in Sweetwater. She was raised in Sylvester and graduated from Sylvester High School. Faye later graduated from Draughn's Business College in Abilene and became a bookkeeper. She married W. A. Cross in Sylvester on April 5, 1943. They moved to Midland where she became a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband's business. They lived in Midland for twenty years and then moved back to Sylvester in 1972. Faye was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvester where she was pianist, secretary and treasurer. She was also a member of the Fisher County Historical Commission. Faye loved fishing with her husband. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son (William A. Cross, Jr.), a brother (Herbert McHaney) and three sisters (Floyce Campbell, Glena Rae Turner and Melba Johnson). Faye is survived by her husband of 67 years, W.A. Cross of Midland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Jess and Monte Cross of Midland and Fred M. and Carol Cross of Clallam Bay, WA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lana Faye and Ed Ordesch of Frisco and Connie Sue and Greg Simon of Midland; a sister and brother-in-law, Billie Ruth and Mike Marzano; a sister-in-law, Shirley McHaney; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
