McHANEY RITES SET AT S'WATER Sweetwater - J. C. McHaney, 70, a resident of Nolan and Fisher Counties for half a century, died Wednesday at 6 a.m. in his home at 1515 McCaulley after a brief illness. He was formerly with the Planter Gin Company at Sylvester and had worked in Sweetwater for the past 18 years as revenue examiner for the State Comptrollers Department. Mr. McHaney was born May 8, 1892 in Indian Territory. His first marriage was to Mollie Scallorn at Medina, Tex. on Dec. 30, 1914. She died in Sweetwater on Dec. 13, 1958. He was then married in Sweetwater in 1959 to Mrs. Alva Palmer. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. James M. Robinson, officiating. Burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery with Cate-Spencer Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Herbert McHaney, Jr., Larry Cross, Richard Campbell, Wallace Johnson, James Fred Turner and Thomas Bartley. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Paul Johnson of San Angelo, Mrs. Fred Turner of Brownfield, Mrs. Lloyd Campbell of Abilene, Mrs. W. A. Cross of Midland and Mrs. Mike Marzana of Conago Park, Calif.; a son, J. H. McHaney of Roby; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-sons, Martin Palmer of Roby, George T. Palmer of Abilene, and Harvey Palmer of Odessa; six step-grandchildren; eight brothers; and three sisters.
