Bio

Edward L. Ziola, 81, of Ravenna, died Monday at a Ravenna care home. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Robert Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary at 7. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Assocation or St. Marys Cathedral parish. Mr. Ziola was born Oct. 12, 1899, at Farwell, the son of Andrew and Anna Bawicz Ziola. He grew up and received his education in the Ashton area. In 1921 he married Catherine Slobaszewski at Ashton. They farmed in the Ashton area where he alswo was a blacksmith. In 1945 they moved to Grand Island where he worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1948 he entered the construction business and was a bricklayer. He retired in 1962. Mrs. Ziola died in July 1947. In 1969 he moved to Ravenna. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish. Survivors include three sons, Emil of Doniphan, Floyd of La Habra, Calif., and Clem of Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. Samuel (Annette) Kraning of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sylvester and Edmund, both of Grand Island, and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Grudzinski of Ravenna, Mrs. Fred (Sophia) Lutte of Leavenworth, Kan., and Mrs. Theo (Louise) Newman of Mission, Kan. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike, Louie and Stanley and a sister, Kate.
