Clemence E. Ziola, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 7. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services. Burial will take place at a later date. Mr. Ziola was born Nov. 15, 1932, at Ashton to Edward and Katherine (Slobaszewski) Ziola. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, June of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Al and Bernie Ziola and David and Lynn Ziola, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Deb Ziola of Grand Island and Judy Ziola of Bellingham, Wash.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Ziola moved to Grand Island as a youth and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1950. He married June Modesitt on July 19, 1954, at Grand Island. Clemence worked in construction, traveling to various states in the Midwest. He joined his brother, Emil in E-Z Construction of Doniphan in the mid 1970's. They worked as sub-contractors for Geer-Melkus Construction during the construction of Stuhr Museum. Clemence later worked for 3-D Bullet Weights of Doniphan and at Grand Island City Cemetery until ill health forced him to retire. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a past member of the Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, antiques, music (and polkas) and coin collecting. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. Mr. Ziola was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Floyd Ziola; and one sister, Annette Kraning.
