Bio
Roger W. Porter, 86, of Olney, Texas, died Friday, January 22, 1999, in an Olney hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 25, at Lunn Funeral Home with the Reverend Greg Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Reverend Max Burkhead, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Mr. Porter was born April 14, 1912, in Wise County, Texas. He and JoAnna Frances Baker were married October 13, 1934, in Seymour, Texas. She died April 5, 1984. He and Vesta Baker were married March 17, 1985, in Weatherford, Texas. He was a retired oil field worker and city employee. He was employed with the City of Olney in the water department for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Downtown Masonic Lodge No. 790 AF&AM where he served as secretary for many years. He was a resident of Olney most of his life. Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger Earl; a sister, Mildred Cook; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
