Bio

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for Earl and Neva Sue Porter, victims of one of the saddest tragedies that has visited this community. The Rev. O.H. Garner of Fort Worth, assisted by Rev. E.M. Francis, Electra, Rev. Lee, Petrolia, Rev. J.L. Walters and H.J. Ballew of Wichita Falls, will have charge of the services and Mrs. Bruce Frazier, choir director of the Baptist Church, will have charge of the music, and the pall bearers will be members of the Masonic lodge. Midway school will be dismissed and a few of the business houses will be closed during the funeral. Burial will be in the local cemetery. The tragedy occurred Monday afternoon four miles northeast of Electra while the children were playing in a lake near the home of the parents. Earl, age 9, and Neva Sue, age 6, children of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Porter were missed from their home about 5:30 when Mrs. Porter called them for supper. A search was started which lasted about an hour before the children's brother, Roger Porter, 15, found the bodies under a small gang plank used as a foot bridge. Roger brought the bodies to the bank unassisted. The bodies were found in about four and one half feet of water. Drs. W.H. Ogden and J.F. Burton of the Parmley-Ogden hospital of Electra were called to the home and pronounced the children dead upon their arrival. The lake is located 200 about yards from the house and is more than 75 feet wide at widest point. The children were the youngest members of Porter family. They are survived by their parents, two brothers, Roger and Clifford, and two sisters, Mildred and Faye. Faye is seriously ill at the home. Mr. Porter is employed as a pumper on the Honaker lease by the Magnolia Petroleum company. The bodies were brought to Electra by the Totten Bros. Undertaking firm and prepared for burial. A large crowd of people from Electra visited the scene of the accident yesterday afternoon and this morning._ The Electra News April 26, 1927
