Funeral services for Alwin O. Zwahr, 93, of Needville, TX, are set for 10 AM Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at First English Lutheran Church in Damon, TX. Burial will follow in Needville Public Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Clark Flentge, Bud Reneau, Troy Tesch, Herbert Zwahr, Jr., Reinhardt Zwahr, Jr., and Jimmy Loewe. Visitation will be 5:30 - 8:00 PM Monday, October 11, 2010, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street, Needville, TX 77461. Alwin Otto Zwahr was born February 18, 1917, in Berlin, TX, to Kurt Zwahr and Alma Franke Zwahr. He passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010, at his home in Fairchild, after an extended illness. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Alwin and his wife, Hilda, moved to Fairchild in 1951, where he was a farmer and carpenter until he retired in 1981. He was a lifelong member of First English Lutheran Church in Damon, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Hilda Haar Zwahr; sisters, Erna Weckworth and Elsie Jine; brothers, Reinhardt, Walter, Herbert, Albert, and Bruno Zwahr; and daughter-in-law, Judy Barak Zwahr. Survivors include three sons, Harley Zwahr of Needville, TX, Charles Zwahr and wife, Joan, of Guy, TX, and Allen Zwahr and wife, Kay, of Bellville, TX; sister, Ella Flentge of Marlin, TX; sisters-in-law, AnNell Zwahr of Brenham, TX, and Hilda Haar of Palo Pinto, TX; grandchildren, Rhonda Firkins and husband, Mike, Nicole Zwahr, Jason Zwahr, and Abby Frank and husband, Wesley; great grandchildren, Haley and Kelsey Firkins and Hagan Frank; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family would like to express special thanks to all his caregivers, especially Helen Navarro.
