Ella Otelia Alma Zwahr Flentge was born February 27, 1922 to Kurt and Alma Franke Zwahr of the Klump Community near Brenham, in Washington County, Texas. She grew up on the family farm along with her six brothers, two sisters, her parents, and her beloved Grandpa George A. Zwahr. There, she participated in all of the farm and home chores and family activities common to rural family life in Texas at that time. Ella was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in the nearby Ebenezer Lutheran Church of Berlin, Texas. She made her public confession of faith in Jesus Christ in 1936 as part of her Confirmation. Ella was educated in the Klump Community School, and had fond memories of her schoolmates and teachers. Ella was married to Ed Flentge of Greenvine, Texas, which is also located in that area of Washington County. During the early years of their marriage, Ed and Ella lived on the Flentge farm for a while, and then in various areas of Fort Bend and Harris Counties, working on dairy farms. In 1946 the couple and their children moved back to Greenvine where they operated their own dairy farm for many years. Ella also worked in Brenham as an industrial seamstress for Mattox Brothers Furniture Company and Sealy Mattress Company. In 1963 the couple moved to the St. Paul community in Falls County near Marlin. For a number of years, Ella was employeed as an Upholstery Seamstress in Houston, and would travel back and forth to Marlin on weekends. They were the most precious things on earth to her. She was a devoted, sweet, and loving Mama and Grandma! She liked music (and on rare occasions would sing, although she claimed she couldn’t), art, sewing, and cooking for her family. She enjoyed the everyday beauties of nature; the trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, and baby animals of all kinds.
