David Fletcher Monk, 85 of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 7, 2010. He was born November 26, 1924 in Oakdale to the union of William "Bill" Newton Monk and Salle Markle Monk. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was a veteran of US Navy, former owner of Dependable Vault Co., and owner of the Oakdale Vault Company. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Eastwood Monk; three sons, Butch Monk, Gerald Wayne Monk and Tommy Glenn Monk, and one daughter, Diane Monk. He is survived by three daughters, Nora "Sissy" McMorris of Oakdale, Peggy Guidry of Breaux Bridge and Nelda Johnson of Oakdale; three sons, W.D. Monk of Crowley, Jimmy Monk of Pitkin and Bruce Monk of Oakdale; five sisters, Linda Nugent of DeQuincy, Dorothy Clover of Alexandria, Mary Roddy of Elizabeth, Nellie Jordan of Oakdale and Charity Monk of Oakdale; three brothers, Fred Monk and Willie Monk of Oakdale, and L.B. Monk of Sulphur; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Pallbearers to serve are Cooper Garris, Billy Joe Monk, Justin Monk, Francis Guidry, Smurf Willis and Daniel Taylor. Services at 12:00 noon on November 9, 2010 in Northside Baptist Church, Oakdale.
