Find A Grave Contributor Michelle Setlik, #48601942 provided the following: Opal Nielsen Obituary - Grand Island Independent August 11, 1983 Mrs. Carl (Opal) Nielsen of Wolbach died unexpectedly August 3 at Collbran, Colorado. Funeral services were held Monday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Wolbach with Pastor Al Winseman officiating. Mrs. Victor Grossart and Mrs. Lloyd Studley sang, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “In The Garden” accompanied by the organist, Miss Bonnie McIntyre. Casket bearers were Don Larson, Art Webb, Albert Christensen, Art Hart, Darrell Cook, and Dennis Brandt. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach.McIntyre-Jacobsen Funeral Home in Wolbach was in charge of arrangements. Opal G. Nielsen, daughter of Fred and Ella Mae Reeder Prentice, was born September 28, 1925 at Elmwood, Nebraska. She departed from this life on August 3, 1983 at Collbran, Colorado at the age of 57 years. As a small child of the age of six, Opal moved from Elmwood with her family to a farm in the Wolbach area. She received her education and grew to womanhood in the Wolbach-Belgrade area. Opal taught country school in Nance County before her marriage. She was united in marriage to Carl W. Nielsen on October 22, 1946 at Smith Center, Kansas. The couple made their home and farmed southeast of Wolbach all their married life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wolbach; news reporter for the Phonograph-Herald and Wolbach Messenger; secretary of the Wolbach Saddle Club; was a member of the Thrifty Women’s Extension Club for over 25 years; and past league secretary for the St. Paul Women’s Bowling Association. She is survived by her husband, Carl W. Nielsen of Wolbach; a daughter Mrs. Lowell (Lola) Larsen of Wolbach; two sons, Eugene (Butch) Nielsen of Alda and Tim Nielsen of Loveland, Colorado; as sister, Mrs. Cyrus (Wilma) Greek of Wolbach; two brothers, Kenneth Prentice of Wolbach and Charles Prentice of Lexington; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Stephenson and Mrs. Margaret Hruska; and a grandson Chris Larsen.
