BLACKBURN PEACE Blackburn "Black" Peace was born to, Hiram Peace and Mary Elizabeth Wilson, October 3, 1830 in Sabine Parish, Louisiana. He died, August 25, 1898 in Shelby County, Texas. Blackburn Peace married Modenia Wheeler around 1852/53. "Black" Peace received a pre-emption land grant of 160 acres on Dec. 12, 1854 from the State of Texas, in the Walnut Grove area of Shelby County, Texas. Blackburn and Modenia Wheeler were the parents of at least nine children. See the Bio. for Modenia Wheeler Peace for additional information. Family lore states that "Black" faught during the Civil War and rode a stud horse, and that he out ran his Company Comander while in retreat.
