Bio

C. R. Preuit, prominent retired farmer and long-time community leader in the Aberdeen area, died in a Shamrock hospital at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 8. He had been in failing health for several months. In recent years, Mr. Preuit had divided his time between his farm in Aberdeen and a home in Shamrock. He was 84 years old. He came to the Aberdeen area 36 years ago and until his retirement he participated in the many activities which made up the life of that pioneer community. However, this was but a continuation of his community work in Oklahoma, his former home. Keenly interest in the development of educational facilities, he had served on the school board in the Lake Creek community, near Granite, OK. Claude Richard Preuit was born Feb. 25, 1881 in Bell County, He became a member of the Baptist Church early in life. Surviving Mr. Preuit are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Preuit of Shamrock, and six daughters: Mrs. W. T. Robertson of Oleta, OK; Mrs. Shelby Yates of Elk City, OK; Mrs. Cicery Gulley of Wellington; Mrs. R. H. Rountree of Hereford; Mrs. J. H. Phy of Amarillo; and Mrs. Hollis Rainey of Shamrock. Other survivors are four brothers: P.A. Preuit of Colton, CA; Lewis Preuit of Longview; R.F. Preuit of Kingsville, and O. A. Preuit of Elina, NM. There are 15 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. P.M. Hobbs, preceded him in death The Wellington Leader June 10, 1965
