Bio

Note: While his obit says he was born in Opelika, Alabama, he was born in Russell County. Opelika wasn't incorporated as a town until 1854, and in 1864, that portion of Russell County became Lee County. He moved to Panola County, Texas with his parents when he was about 3-yrs old. That was before Opelika and Lee County were formed. Obit: A well-known figure in Clarendon passed away Tuesday evening at 6:25 p.m. when Mr. C.A. Bryan, 89, died after a three-months illness. He had been in bed since a fall in the spring on the street caused a fractured skull and broken blood vessel in the left eye. Funeral services were hld [sic] Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. J. Perry King in charge. Burial was in the Citizen's Cemetery. Mr. Bryan was born November 29, 1850 in Opelika, Ala. With his family he moved to Texas in 1853, settling in Panola county. He was married July 18, 1872 to Miss Lucy Ona Baldwin of Panola County. Mrs. Bryan died in 1926. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan moved to Donley county in 1906 where he purchased a grocery and general business store. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since the age of 13 when he joined in Panola County. Six children survive him: E.F. Bryan of Amarillo, Earl W. of Teneha, Regan, and Mesdames Frank Whitlock, W.A. Land, Buel Sanford, all of Clarendon. One son, Allen, died forty years ago, in Tenaha. Fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren also survive.
