Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Sara Ona Land with Rev. Ed Byers officiating. Mrs. Land, age 69, died in an auto accident east of Amarillo last Thursday afternoon. She was the widow of W.A. Land and had been a Clarendon resident since 196. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Marvin Land, of Tucumcari, New Mexico; two grandsons, Billy Marvin Land, El Paso, and Tommy Roy Land, Tucumcari; a stepson, Roy Land, Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Whitlock and Mrs. Buel Sanford, both of Clarendon; and two brothers, Reagan C. Bryan, Clarendon, and Earl Bryan, Zwollie, La. Pallbearers were Van Knox, L.P. Moore, P.C. Messer, Harold Bugbee, Hilburn Gattis and Cecil Thomas. Burial was in Citizens Cemetery with the Murphy-Spicer Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements. ----- Two local ladies were killed and four others injured last Thursday afternoon when their automobile was involved in a collision about seven miles east of Amarillo. The ladies were returning home from a Club meeting in Amarillo. The car driven by Mrs. J.R. Bartlett was struck from behind by a car driven by L.C. Selby of Hedley. It was reported that the Bartlett car turned over several times after it was struck from behind and that that the impact was terrific. Mrs. W.A. Land and Mrs. R.R. Dawkins were dead when ambulances arrived on the scene. The four other occupants of the car were taken to Northwest Texas Hospital. They were Mrs. J.R. Bartlett, Mrs. Major Hudson, Mrs. R.O. Thomas and Mrs. Buel Sanford. In addition to multiple bruises suffered by each of the ladies, the extent of injuries as reported to the Leader is as follows: Mrs. Bartlett: shoulder injury, released from hospital yesterday; Mrs. Sanford, neck and chest injuries, still in hospital; Mrs. R.O. Thomas, broken left arm, dislocated left shoulder, 2 broken ribs and back injury, still in hospital and allowed no visitors at this time; Mrs. Major Hudson, was released from hospital Friday morning but returned for further check Monday at which time it was found that she suffered two broken ribs and fractured shoulder, released again Tuesday; Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Sanford probably will be in the hospital for several days yet, was the last report. A charge of murder without malice was filed Friday in district court at Amarillo against Selby, driver of the car which struck the one driven by Mrs. Bartlett. The Bartlett car was described as a total loss and the car driven by Selby was badly damaged. Selby was unhurt in the accident.
