OBITUARY Roy C. Mathews, Rt. 3, Paris, died Tuesday. Jan. 4, at McCuistion Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmye Newman officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Mathews was born Jan. 17, 1895, in Poteau, Okla., a son of George W. and Mattie Jane Heflin Mathews. He was married to Jessie Burl Mickey on Dec. 26. 1919, in Paris. She died April 6, 1970. He was a member of the College Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army and was a farmer. Surviving are three sons, Vernon Mathews of Paris, Roy T. Mathews of Galena Park and Clifford Mathews of Mesquite; one daughter, Imogene Prather of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Hamp Mathews of Houston; Bill Mathews of Hobart, Okla. and Alvie Mathews of Paris; two sisters, Ethel Player of San Leandro, Calif, and Annie Mae McFadden of Paris; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. --from The Paris News , Weds, Jan 5, 1983, page 4A
