Son of George Washington Mathews and Martha Jane (Mattie) Heflin. Siblings: Clyde Mathews , who died in 1928 of tuberculosis. Beulah Belle (Cecil Stewart) , who died in 1974 in Paris. Roy C. Mathews , of Paris, who died in 1983. George Alvie 'Cotton' Mathews , of Paris, who died in 1992. William C. Mathews , of Hobart, OK, who died in 1990. Edward T. Mathews , of Paris, who died March 1976 Effie (Thomas Burnett 'Burnie' Bridges) , of Paris, who died Apr 2, 1980. Annie Mae (Tom G. McFadden), , of Paris, who died in 1992. Ethel Myra (Elbert Nathan Player), of San Leandro, Alameda County, CA, born Nov 17, 1898, died Dec 11, 1992 in Alameda County. Uncle D. L. Mathews , of Roxton, who died in 1957 OBITUARY Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 16, in Brookside Funeral Chapel for L. H. "Hamp" Mathews, 79, of Houston. The Rev. Franklin G. Jones officiated and burial was in Brookside Memorial Park in Houston. Mr. Mathews, a native of Paris, died Sunday, March 13, 1983. He had lived in Houston since 1937 and was employed by Anderson-Clayton for 31 years before retiring in 1969. He was a member of Gus A. Brandt Lodge No. 1296, AF & AM. Surviving are his wife, Ollie; two daughters, Jackie Fenoglio and Sue Blackburn, both of Houston; two sisters, Ethel Player of San Leandro, Calif., and Annie Mae McFadden of Paris; two brothers, W. C. Mathews of Hobart, Okla. and G. A. Mathews of Paris; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, Louis D.
