Mathews , of Roxton, who died in 1957 OBITUARY --from The Paris News , Monday, March 15, 1976, p 8 Edward T. Mathews, Rt. 3, Paris, died Sunday at 12:55 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Leverett and Steete Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Mathews was born April 12, 1906 in the Atlas community. He lived a lifetime in Lamar and Delta County and was a retired farmer and rancher. He was the son of the late George Washington Mathews and Martha Jane Heflin. He married Ina Lou Kennemer Aug. 17, 1936 in Biardstown. He was a member of the Pecan Gap Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ina; one son, Will Ed Mathews of Houston; four brothers, Roy C. Mathews of Paris, W. C. Mathews of Holbart, Okla., L. H. Mathews of Houston and George Alvie Mathews of Paris; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Bridges of Paris, Mrs. Ethel Player of San Leandro, Calif., and Mrs. Annie Mae McFadden of Paris; and three grandchildren; Roderick, Rejeana and David Mathews, all of Houston. --from The Paris News , Weds, March 17, 1976, page 14A Funeral services for Edward T. Mathews, Rt. 2, Paris, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Chapel in Leverett and Steele Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Yates officiated, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jay Gentry, Jesse Osborn, Barnard Ruthart, Weldon Moss, Bobby Kennemer and Hoyt Kennemer. Mr. Mathews, age 69, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a retired rancher and lifelong resident of Lamar County.
