Jakub Patek was born in Netolice, Czech. He married Marie "Mary" Vackar around 1868, and to this union were born 11 children: 2 older children who died young in Czech. John Patek, Sr.; b. 12-26-1869 Czech., d. 6-6-1953 Shiner, Lavaca Co., Texas James G. Patek; b. 11-4-1870, d. 4-20-1944 Theresa Patek (Mertlik); b. 9-13-1872, d. 8-4-1972 Mary Patek (Velek); b. 2-2-1875, d. 3-28-1946 Barbara Patek (Siegel); b. 12-4-1878, d. 12-23-1966 Anna Patek; b. 1882, d. Jan. 1894 Ludmila Patek (Horkey); b. 1885, d. 8-24-1938 Anastasia Patek (Kurtz); b. 4-6-1886, d. 1-10-1966 Jakub J. Patek; b. 7-3-1890, d. 6-3-1952 The Patek family came to America landing at Galveston in September 1890. They continued their journey inland and settled in the Moulton-Flatonia area. Later they moved to the Shiner community. His son, John Patek, was a founding member of the original Patek Orchestra in 1910. Later, it was known as the Joe Patek Orchestra. Jakub passed away in 1906 at the age of 65. ------------------------------------------ Shiner Gazette, 29 Aug 1906 Jacob Patek. Mr. Jacob Patek, living near Shiner, died last Sunday, aged 61 years. Mr. Patek had been sick some time from cancer of the stomach. His remains were laid to rest on Monday in the Catholic cemetery, and were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
